Bangladesh’s Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has cautioned that certain groups are attempting to incite unrest during the forthcoming Durga Puja, the largest annual festival of the Hindu community.
Speaking on Sunday (Sept 7) while inaugurating an election-related training programme for police officers at Rajarbagh Police Lines in Dhaka, Chowdhury said some elements may seek to destabilise the country during the celebrations.
He called on law enforcement agencies to remain on high alert throughout the festival, urging them to demonstrate the same vigilance as in previous years.
The adviser also thanked the police for their role in maintaining public safety during last year’s Durga Puja.
