Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today formally launched a training programme aimed at enhancing the skills and capacity of police personnel to perform election duties professionally.

The programme was inaugurated at Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in Dhaka, with the Home Adviser serving as the chief guest. 

Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Md Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, Senior Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam were also present.

More than 1.5 lakh policemen will be trained under the programme to ensure a secure and well-managed national election scheduled for February next year.

The Police Headquarters’ HR department has developed nine training modules over the past three months, incorporating input from election experts and lawyers under the leadership of the IGP and Additional IGP for HR. 

The course is designed to prepare police personnel to handle law and order situations effectively during the polls.

Bangladesh Police operate 130 smaller and four larger training centres nationwide, where personnel will be trained according to the course outline. 

Two documentaries—a 15-minute audiovisual and a nine-minute film—alongside a booklet, have been developed to support the programme.

From August 31 to September 2, 150 master trainers were trained at PHQ in Dhaka. 

The plan is to develop 1,292 master trainers at 19 training centres across the country, who will then train the more than 1.5 lakh police personnel assigned to election duty.
