Providing meals to disadvantaged kids in Dhamrai

Rakib, Ashik, Mahadi, Babu, and Mim are children from disadvantaged families. Some have lost their fathers, some their mothers, and some have lost both parents. Since birth, they have been deprived of love and affection.

One or two attend school, while the rest collect discarded items from the streets. They wander in dirty clothes, with no one to care for them. However, the friends from the Dhamrai unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho recently provided meals for over 50 such disadvantaged children, who ate to their hearts’ content.

They also taught them how to become good citizens. They told them various success stories so that they become good citizens by pursuing education.

The children eagerly heard the stories from the members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho. Some of them agreed to study. The disadvantaged children and the Shuvosangho activists spent their time joyfully from 10am to 4pm.

The day-long event was organised recently in Dhamrai’s Kalampur area near Dhaka, as per prior instruction of the friends of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Dhamrai unit, the children assembled at the venue since morning. Bashundhara Shuvosangho Central Committee Organising Secretary Mehrin Mushfika, Afrina, Siam and Oasim Akram of the Dhamrai unit made their sitting arrangement in a common spot. They arranged games and sports for them.

From time to time, they supervised the cooking arrangement. The children’s food was khichuri (hotchpotch) and meat. During intervals, the children peeped into the kitchen. Cooking ended in the middle of the day. The children sat on mats.

Bashundhara Shuvosangho members taught them how to wash their hands every time before taking meals. Afterwards, plates were given in front of them where foods were served as per needs. The children enjoyed the food. The hosts said Bashundhara Shuvosangho carries out service-oriented activities across the country. Bashundhara Shuvosangho has taken steps to bring the children to the mainstream of society. As part of the programme, the children were brought there. The host’s main objective was not merely to feed the children.

In the meantime, the organisers taught them many things. They encouraged them to study. Bashundhara Shuvosangho will stand beside them if they need help. They can admit the children to schools.
