Anti-Discriminatory Student Movement’s key coordinators this morning proposed Nobel Laureate Dr Mohammad Yunus as the chief advisor of the interim government.
In a video posted on social media, Nahid Islam, one of the movement’s key coordinators, announced that they had already spoken with Prof. Yunus, who consented to the role given the current situation in the country.
Flanked by two other coordinators, Nahid explained that the widespread violence was being perpetrated by "ousted fascists and their collaborators" to undermine the revolution.
"We initially planned to take 24 hours to announce a framework for the interim government, but due to the urgent situation, we are announcing it now," Nahid stated, referencing the ongoing indiscriminate firing, attacks on temples, and widespread looting.
Nahid said, "We have decided that the interim government will be led by internationally renowned Nobel Laureate Dr. Mohammad Yunus, who has broad acceptability."
"We want to see the process rolling by morning. We urge the president to take steps as soon as possible to form an interim government headed by Dr. Yunus," he added. Nahid also mentioned that the names of the remaining members of the interim government would be announced by morning.
"Dear friends, given the current anarchy and insecurity, we urge the president to take immediate and effective steps to restore law and order. Students will also be on the streets to assist law enforcement forces in this regard," Nahid said. "Until the interim government is formed, students must remain on the streets to protect their uprising. We have given our blood and witnessed martyrdom; we must fulfill our pledge to build a new Bangladesh."
"No government other than the one proposed by the students will be accepted. As we have stated, no military government, no government backed by the military, and no government of fascists will be accepted," Nahid emphasized.
"Following our uprising, the fascists are creating anarchy in the country. There is now firing and shooting in many areas, attacks on temples, looting, and sabotage. We believe this is a preplanned attempt to undermine the students' uprising."
"We have decided that the interim government proposed by the uprising students and the people will be formed with Prof. Yunus as the chief advisor. This government must be formed without delay," Nahid insisted.
"We call on everyone to take to the streets starting tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. The 'Committee to Safeguard Public Property and Communal Harmony,' formed and led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has announced they will guard every locality. We must protect our minority communities, public property, and our country," he concluded.
