Decisions taken in the first meeting of interim govt

The 17 advisers of the interim government held their first meeting on Friday and took a number of important decisions on issues including reforming different aspects of the country and state, bolstering business activities, containing inflation and reopening educational institutions.

Environment and climate change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan and ICT adviser Nahid Islam briefed reporters about the decisions taken after attending the meeting at the state guest house Jamuna in the capital.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan said, the advisers agreed to open all educational institutions at the earliest, but noted that it has to be done after improving the law and order situation.

In the absence of police, students have assumed the responsibility of controlling traffic on the roads. In this backdrop, educational institutions cannot be reopened the next day as this would lead to chaos on roads, she said.

Institutions would be reopened after the educational environment is restored in consultation with teachers, and at the same time the overall law and order situation also improves, she said.

Furthermore, advisers decided to hold talks will all the concerned stakeholders for deciding agendas for reforming every sector of the country. Elaborate discussions for executing reforms would be held after the agendas are fixed, Rizwana noted.

Measures would be fast-tracked for changing the leadership of different economic sectors, and thereby, strengthening business activities.

The finance adviser would prioritise market control for easing the sufferings of people, struggling under the weight of years of high inflation, she added.

The duration of the interim government can be determined only after the reform plans are finalised, Rizwana told reporters in her concluding remarks.
