Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan has said that he will resign by this evening, following a discussion with President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
He confirmed the matter to journalists on Saturday (Aug 10) noon.
Earlier, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement held a protest at the High Court premises, demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan and other Appellate Division judges.
Earlier in the day, the full court meeting that was scheduled to involve all the judges of both divisions of the Supreme Court, has been postponed.
Shafiqul Islam, public relations officer of the Supreme Court, confirmed the matter this morning.
It is learnt that the chief justice had called the full court meeting for 10:30am to discuss how to manage the court’s operations in the current situation, among other issues.
However, before the meeting, Asif Mahmud, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, termed the chief justice a "friend of fascism," demanded his resignation, and issued an ultimatum to cancel the full court meeting.
