The Bangladesh mission in Tripura’s Agartala ceased issuing visas on Tuesday.
The suspension comes amid a security breach incident at the Assistant High Commission office in Agartala’s Kunjaban area as members of the Hindu Sangharsh Samiti, a Hindu nationalist group, stormed the Bangladeshi consulate during a protest.
“Given the security situation, all visa and consular services at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, Agartala will remain suspended until further notice," a notice hung outside the mission’s gates read.
Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain said that due to security reasons, a decision has been taken to temporarily close consular services at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala. As a result, Bangladesh visa services from that mission will remain closed."
