Police have arrested the prime suspect along with four others for allegedly raping a 25-year-old woman in Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla, recording and circulating a video of the assault on social media.
The main suspect, Fajr Ali, 38, was detained in Dhaka’s Sayedabad area around 5 am on Sunday (June 29), according to Cumilla Superintendent of Police Nazir Ahmed Khan.
Fajr Ali, a resident of Baherchar Pachkitta village in Muradnagar, allegedly broke into the woman’s family home and assaulted her. The woman had recently travelled from her husband’s residence to visit her father’s home.
The four others arrested — identified as Anik, Suman, Ramzan, and Babu, also from Baherchar Pachkitta village — are accused of filming the incident and sharing it online.
Superintendent Khan said the video’s circulation sparked widespread outrage on social media, prompting urgent calls for justice. Acting on a case filed by the victim with Muradnagar Police Station, authorities launched a manhunt and tracked down the main suspect using digital surveillance tools.
According to police, the investigation is ongoing.
