The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has formally accepted charges in the killing case of Abu Sayeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, who was shot dead during the July mass uprising last year.
Alongside, the tribunal issued arrest warrants for 26 individuals, including the university’s former vice-chancellor.
The charges were submitted to the tribunal on Monday morning, which also scheduled a hearing on the case. The investigation agency had submitted its report on June 24.
The charge sheet names 30 people, including former proctor Shariful Islam, for their involvement in the killing. The prosecution also submitted the firearm used in the incident as evidence.
Four accused are currently in custody. They are former proctor Shariful Islam, former ASI Amir Hossain of Tajhat police station, Constable Sujon Chandra Roy, and Chhatra League leader Imran Chowdhury Akash from the university.
All four appeared before the tribunal on June 15.
The case was originally filed on January 13 by Abu Sayeed’s elder brother, Ramzan, who accused 25 individuals.
Abu Sayeed was killed by police gunfire on July 16 last year during protests demanding quota reforms.
