The High Court (HC) has directed authorities to prepare and implement a time-bound action plan to install adequate and functional solar panels on the rooftops of all buildings across Dhaka city.
The court also ordered that all existing solar panels on residential and commercial buildings in the capital be made operational.
A HC bench of Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Faiz Ahmed issued the order along with a rule after the primary hearing of a public interest litigation filed by the Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA).
The Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), and the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) have been asked to submit a compliance report within six months.
