An 18-year-old boy named Shanto Nandi died after drowning in a pond in Dharpara area under Haidgaon Union of Patiya upazila.

The incident happened on Monday (June 30) afternoon, police and family sources confirmed.

Shanto, originally from Rangpur, had been living in Chattogram city with his parents. Four days ago, he came to visit his maternal uncle’s house in Patiya.

According to relatives, Shanto went to bathe in a nearby pond with his friends. While the others returned safely, Shanto was missing. Local residents started searching the pond and eventually found his body. He was rushed to the upazila health complex, where doctors declared him dead.

His uncle Subhash Sen confirmed the incident and said Shanto drowned while bathing in the pond around noon.
