Man shot, hacked dead in Narsingdi

A man was shot and hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Narsingdi on Monday (July 1) night.

The deceased was identified as Rizvi, 35), who was a cable and internet businessman.

The attack took place around 11:30pm in front of the Purbobrahmandi Women’s Madrasa under the Sadar upazila.

Rizvi, son of freedom fighter Zainal Abedin, was originally from Karimganj in Raipura upazila but had been living with his family in Birpur area of Narsingdi town.

According to police and locals, Rizvi was ambushed while near the madrasa. The attackers first shot him and then struck him with sharp weapons to confirm the killing before fleeing the scene. He died on the spot.

Sujoy Sarkar, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Narsingdi, said, “We rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information and recovered the body. It has been sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsy.”

He said that evidence was collected from the scene, and an investigation is underway to determine the motive and identify those responsible. 

“Legal procedures are ongoing,” he added.

Police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the killing.
