28 Bangladeshis return home from Iran

A group of 28 Bangladeshi nationals returned to Dhaka from Iran on Tuesday morning, amid ongoing efforts to repatriate citizens in the wake of the recent Iran-Israel conflict.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the returnees traveled from Tehran to Dhaka via Dubai.

The group had earlier crossed into Pakistan by road through the Taftan border in Balochistan, before flying to Dubai from Karachi on Monday.

According to diplomatic sources, most of the returnees are women, children, and patients who had been in Iran for medical treatment. They left Tehran on June 25, as part of the first batch to depart following the escalation of tensions in the region.

“Initially, many Bangladeshis expressed interest in returning due to the conflict,” an official said. “However, now that the situation has calmed, fewer are opting to return.”

Bangladesh’s embassy in Tehran has so far registered 250 nationals who wish to be repatriated.

Officials say plans had been made to bring them back in phases, but the improving situation may allow many to return independently once international flights resume normal operations.

There are approximately 2,000 Bangladeshi nationals residing in Iran, including 400 in Tehran. Of the 672 officially registered Bangladeshis, 66 are students, according to embassy records.
