Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has said that the Election Commission (EC) is moving ahead in full gear to prepare for the upcoming national elections.
However, no discussion has taken place yet with the Chief Adviser regarding the election date.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at his office in the Election Commission Bhaban on Tuesday afternoon.
Speaking about his recent meeting with the Chief Adviser, the CEC described it as a courtesy call.
“The Chief Adviser is neutral, and so am I. Since elections are a national focus now, we discussed the matter briefly. The Chief Adviser is sincere about holding elections,” he added.
“Our full preparation is focused on the national election. We are not preparing for local elections at the moment,” the CEC said.
When asked if there was any discussion about the possible election date, Nasir Uddin replied, “There was no discussion on the date. The Election Commission will announce the schedule in due time. Preparations have been underway since February, targeting a window between February and April.”
