Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed has taken steps to expedite the disposal of 10,385 long-pending cases filed before the year 2000 in the High Court Division.
The Supreme Court administration shared the development in a statement on Thursday (July 10).
According to statement, the Chief Justice directed that these old cases of various types be sent to several designated benches with appropriate jurisdiction in the High Court Division for hearing and disposal on a priority basis.
Officials said the move aims to reduce the backlog of cases and improve the overall efficiency of the judiciary.
The Supreme Court noted that the cases will be scheduled for hearings in phases to ensure timely resolution.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen case management and ensure faster delivery of justice for litigants whose matters have remained unresolved for decades.
