The High Court (HC) today disposed of a contempt of court petition filed against Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) of the Nationalist Citizens’ Party (NCP), over a Facebook post deemed derogatory towards the Supreme Court.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Sayed Jahed Mansur passed the order with observation after hearing the petition.
Earlier, on May 24, Advocate Jasim sent a legal notice to Sarjis Alam, alleging that his Facebook post contained comments offensive to the apex court.
As Sarjis did not respond to the notice, the lawyer filed a contempt petition on May 28.
The court, after examining the matter, disposed of the petition without issuing any punishment, but made observations regarding the importance of maintaining respect towards the judiciary.
