Bangladesh observes mourning for jet crash victims

A one-day state mourning is being observed today (July 22) across Bangladesh following the tragic crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, which claimed 27 lives.

National flags are being flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, educational institutions, and Bangladesh missions abroad.

Special prayers are being offered at religious places for the victims. The crash occurred on Monday afternoon due to a reported mechanical failure, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Rescue operations were promptly launched, and many of the injured remain in critical condition.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus expressed deep condolences and called for enhanced safety at educational institutions. A five-member probe committee has been formed and tasked with submitting a report within seven working days.
