A Dhaka court on Tuesday remanded former additional superintendent of Police Abdullah Hil Kafi and former Detective Branch Inspector Arafat Hossain for two days each in the murder case of BNP activist Mamun Khandaker, who was shot during last year’s July–August mass uprising in Ashulia.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Tajul Islam Sohagh passed the order after police produced the pair and sought remand for further interrogation.
Case records state that Mamun was shot in Baipail, Ashulia, on 5 August 2024. While en route to the National Institute of Neuro Sciences, the accused officers allegedly blocked the ambulance and forced his family to admit him to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital, where he died on 7 August. His wife filed the murder case on 22 August.
Kafi was detained at Shahjalal International Airport on 2 September while attempting to leave the country; Arafat was arrested in Aftabnagar on 13 September.
