Firefighters brought a blaze under control after it erupted early Thursday (September 4) at a tin-shed market in the Chandana Chowrasta area of Gazipur city, gutting at least 20 to 25 shops.
According to local residents and officials from the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the fire began around 6 a.m. near the western side of Shapla Mansion.
Locals initially attempted to extinguish the flames and alerted authorities, prompting the deployment of five firefighting units from the Chowrasta Modern and Joydebpur stations.
After nearly an hour of coordinated efforts, fire personnel contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to adjacent markets.
According to Mohammad Mamun, Deputy Assistant Director of the Gazipur Fire Service, no casualties have been reported.
“Thanks to the swift response of our teams, the fire did not extend beyond the affected market,” he said. “Roughly 20 to 25 wholesale and retail shops were damaged,” he added.
The cause of the fire and the full extent of the losses remain undetermined.
An investigation is underway to ascertain the origin and assess the damage.
