Moudud gets bail in sedition case

DHAKA: The High Court gave BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed MP anticipatory bail in a sedition case filed in Khulna till charge framing.

An HC bench comprising Justice Dastagir Ahmed and MK Jahirul Haq passed the order following a petition filed by Moudud Monday seeking bail in the case.

The court also issued a rule upon the government to explain within four weeks why Moudud shouldn’t be granted regular bail in the case.

According to case statement, Moudud didn’t protest Jamaat central leader and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher’s “provocative” speech against the government at a function on August 4.

Additional Public Prosecutor of Khulna Advocate MM Sazzad Ali Sunday filed the case.

“The case has been filed against me with ill motives,” said Barrister Moudud Ahmed, also ex-law minister, after the court order.
