MAGURA: A Chhatra Dal leader was chopped to death here on Tuesday night after he assaulted a Juba Dal leader hours before he was killed, police said.

The deceased was identified as Mahbub Hossain, 30, joint-convener of district unit of Chhtra Dal, student wing of opposition BNP. Police could not confirm the motive behind his killing.

Local people said, Mahbub had assaulted Harun-ur-Rashid, 36, former assistant general secretary of the district Juba Dal, youth wing of opposition BNP, few hours before his body was recovered from Matrisadan Road.

On duty doctors declared him dead as local people took him to hospital.

“Both the leaders were in a feud over contractual works. We are investigating into the matter,” Sadar thana officer in charge Abdur Rakib Khan said.

Party sources said both the leaders, hailed from Parla Biswas area, had rivalry over supremacy.

Harun was rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
