Court halts new JCD committee operation

DHAKA:  A Dhaka court issued a stay order on activates of newly-declared committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The court also served show cause notice to newly-elected JCD president Fazlur Rahman Khokon and its general secretary Iqbal Hossain Shamol and asked them to respond within seven days.

Judge Nusrat Sahara Bithi of the fourth assistant judge's court of Dhaka on Monday (September 23) passed the order.

Earlier on September 19, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), elected Fazlur Rahman Khokon as its president and Iqbal Hossain Shamol as general secretary in the sixth council of the organization.

Members of JCD cast their votes at the residence of the party's standing committee member Mirza Abbas in Dhaka’s Shahjahanpur to elect their new leaders after a long span of 27 years.

Khokon bagged 186 votes while his closest candidate Kazi Rawnakul Islam Srabon got 178 votes for the post of president.

For the general secretary post, Shamol got 139 votes, while his nearest competitor Zakirul Islam Zakir received 78 votes.

Earlier on June 3, BNP dissolved the previous Rajib-Akram committee.
