DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir left for Singapore for medical treatment on Thursday (Oct 3) midnight.
Fakhrul along with his wife Rahat Ara Begum left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Singapore in a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines around 11:55pm, BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan said.
He said Fakhrul will receive treatment at the Raffles Hospital in Singapore for blockage in the nerve of his neck. He needs follow-up treatment every six months.
After receiving treatment in Singapore, Mirza Fakhrul will go to Australia to attend a meeting of Asia Pacific Democrat Union (APDU).
Earlier in March this year, Fakhrul was elected one of the three vice-chairmen of the APDU as the organisation gave BNP its full membership.
Fakhrul is likely to go to London from Australia and may hold meeting with BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman there.
