Saad Ershad takes oath as MP

DHAKA: Jatiya Party (JP)-nominated candidate Rahgir Almahi Saad Ershad, who won the Rangpur-3 by-polls, took oath as member of the 11th parliament on Thursday (Oct 10).

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath at 12:05pm at her office in the parliament.

Raushan Earshad, leader of the opposition in the 11th parliament, was also present at the swearing in ceremony.

Earlier October 5, Saad Ershad, son of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, was unofficially declared win in Rangpur-3 by-polls, bagging 58,878 votes.

The nearest rival BNP-nominated candidate Rita Rahman secured the second position bagged 16,947 votes with her party symbol Sheaf of Paddy.

A total of six candidates contested in by-poll in Rangpur-3 seat that became vacant following death of Leader of the Opposition in the Jatiya Sangshad and Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad on July 14 last.
