DHAKA: Expelled Dhaka South unit Jubo League President Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat has been put on 10-day remand in two cases filed under the Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act.
Besides, expelled Dhaka South JL vice president Enamul Haque Arman was placed on five-day remand in the case filed under narcotics control acts.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain on Tuesday (Oct 15) granted the remand petition filed by police.
Investigation officer of the cases produced Samrat and Arman before the court around 10:45am.
Earlier on October 9, the same court fixed Tuesday (Oct 15) for remand hearing as Samrat could not be produced before the court on that day due to his illness.
Samrat was admitted to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases on Tuesday (Oct 10) as he fell ill and later on Saturday he was taken to central jail after recovery.
Earlier on October 6, Jubo League has expelled its Dhaka South unit President Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat and vice president Enamul Haque Arman after being arrested by the Rab.
'According to the constitution of the organization, if anyone is detained or arrested for criminal offenses, he will be expelled. For this reason, they have been expelled from all their member posts, including Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo League. ”
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Jubo League’s Dhaka South unit President Ismail Hossain Samrat and vice president Arman in Cumilla on Oct 6.
Samrat went underground once information linking leaders of the Awami League's youth front with the illegal gambling business surfaced.
Earlier on September 24, the government imposed a travel ban on Samrat.
