Samrat, Arman taken to Rab custody

DHAKA: Detective Branch of police on Thursday (Oct 17) handed over expelled Dhaka South unit Jubo League President Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat and vice president Enamul Haque Arman to Rab-1 as it was assigned for further investigation into the cases. 

Mizanur Rahman, Senior Assistant Director of RAB (Legal and Media Wing) told Banglanews that DB was investigating both cases filed with Ramna police station against Samrat and Arman. There, they were being interrogated on remand.

On Wednesday (October 16), Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-1 has been assigned for investigation into the cases As a result, the duo was taken into Rab custody this afternoon as part of the investigation. 

Earlier on Oct 15, Samrat has been put on 10-day remand in two cases filed under the Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act while Arman was placed on five-day remand in the case filed under narcotics control acts. 

Investigation officer of the cases produced Samrat and Arman before the court with remand petition.

Earlier on October 9, the same court fixed Tuesday (Oct 15) for remand hearing as Samrat could not be produced before the court on that day due to his illness. 

Samrat was admitted to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases on Tuesday (Oct 10) as he fell ill and later on Saturday he was taken to central jail after recovery. 

Earlier on Oct 6, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Jubo League’s Dhaka South unit President Ismail Hossain Samrat and vice president Arman in Cumilla.

Samrat went underground once information linking leaders of the Awami League's youth front with the illegal gambling business surfaced.

Earlier on September 24, the government imposed a travel ban on Samrat.
