Dozens of vehicles torched in city

DHAKA: Miscreants torched scores of public and private vehicles in different part of the city on Saturday ahead of 60-hour hartal called by BNP led 18-party alliance.

A bus and a truck were set fire near Tejgaon College in Farmgate area around 12:30pm, the fire service and civil defense control room said.

At Malibagh, a private car was torched by some miscreants chanting slogans to oust government.

Another private car was vandalized and burnt by hartal supporters on afternoon.

At least nine vehicles torched near Shah Ali Mazar, secton-1, 10, 13 and in front Purabi Cinema Hall in Mirpur in the evening.

BNP-Jamaat activists set fire to a human hauler at Mohammadpur around 7.00pm, leaving its driver injured critically.

At least two buses were burnt by pro-hartal activists near Abdullahpur area at Uttara.

In Bashabo, a vehicle was vandalized and torched in the evening.

After a 40-minute talks to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over phone, Opposition BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia announced that her party is ready for talks anytime after hartal scheduled to be enforced from Sunday morning.
