Remanding and tying Faiyaz with rope was a mistake, govt admits to HC

The government on Monday admitted to the High Court that taking Dhaka College student Hasnatul Islam Faiyaz on remand and tying him with ropes was a fault, and steps will be taken to prevent such fault in the future.

The remand of Hasnatul Islam Faiyaz has been revoked, and he has been relocated to the Child Development Centre, Additional Attorney General SM Munir informed the High Court bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar and Justice SM Maniruzzaman during a hearing of a writ petition.

Supreme Court lawyer Shahdeen Malik filed a writ petition as a public interest litigation yesterday, questioning the legality of placing 17-year-old Hasnatul Islam Faiyaz on a seven-day remand in connection with a case at Jatrabari Police Station involving charges of clashes and vandalism.

On Monday, the High Court rejected the writ petition, noting that the issue had become pointless since Faiyaz's remand had already been cancelled.

Md Monjur Alam joined the argument of the petition with Shahdeen Malik while the Additional Attorney General and Acting Attorney General SM Munir, along with Additional Attorney General Sk Md Morshed, represented the state and opposed the petition.
