Three women were killed and several others injured in an incident of electrocution following a transformer fire in Bandarban’s Sualak Union early Monday (July 14).

The accident took place around 2 am in Dewai Headman Para, under Ward No. 7 of Sualak Union in Bandarban Sadar Upazila.

The deceased have been identified as Orkan Mro, 71, Tumale Mro, 17, and Runale Mro, 35.

According to local sources, a fire broke out in an electrical transformer in the village and rapidly spread, triggering a short circuit in nearby homes. The three women were electrocuted during the incident.

Sualak Union Parishad Chairman Ukyunu Marma confirmed the deaths, saying the tragedy has cast a pall of mourning over the area.

An investigation team from the Bandarban office of the Electricity Distribution Department visited the site following the incident, said Executive Engineer Syed Amir Hossain Masum.
