Jubo Dal leader Mahbub murder, CCTV footage reveals identities Mahbubur Rahman Molla murder suspects

Police have identified three suspects in the killing of Mahbubur Rahman Molla, an expelled local leader of the opposition-affiliated Jubo Dal, using CCTV footage that captured the attack in Khulna's Daulatpur area.

Mahbub, a former vice-president of the Jubo Dal under Daulatpur Police Station, was gunned down in broad daylight on Friday (July 11) while washing a private car outside his home in Maheshwarpasha Paschim Para.

The assailants also used a sharp weapon to sever his leg veins, reportedly to ensure his death.

According to police and local residents, the assailants are linked to a known extremist group led by a figure identified only as "Huma."

Surveillance footage from nearby buildings, shared widely on social media, shows three young men fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.

The suspects were identified as Raihan (rider), Asif (middle), and Emon (rear seat). All three had previously spent eight months in jail in a weapons case and were released on bail in late June.

On Saturday night, police arrested a local man named Sajal, 27, from the same area. He allegedly informed the attackers of Mahbub’s location before the murder. Sajal has been placed on remand for further interrogation.

Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Atahar Ali told Banglanews that law enforcement is working to determine the exact roles of the suspects, but confirmed that they are affiliated with an extremist group.

A day after the attack, Mahbub’s father filed a murder case against unnamed individuals with Daulatpur Police Station (Case No. 12).

The brazen nature of the killing — involving firearms and a public shooting — has shocked residents. Witnesses said a van driver named Gazi Solaiman, who was assisting Mahbub at the time, narrowly escaped after the gunmen opened fire. Bullets struck the main gate and the surrounding walls of Mahbub’s home.

Police records show that Mahbub had eight cases filed against him across various police stations, including charges related to drugs and violent crime.
