90 BNP-Jamaat men among 198 detained

DHAKA: Law enforcers detained at least 169 people, including 90 leaders-activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, in separate drives across the country apprehending sabotage during nationwide hartal and blockade.

In capital, some 27 BNP leaders-activists were detained by police from different places, said DMP media center deputy commissioner Masudur Rahman.

Besides, Detective Branch of Police detained two former BNP lawmakers Ashraf Uddin Nizam and Nazim Uddin Ahmed from capital’s Motijheel area at noon.

Law enforcers nabbed 39 people, including two BNP men in Jessore, 37 others including six BNP-Jamaat activists in Satkhira, 23 people, including four BNP-Jamaat men in Narail, 17 people in Gazipur, 14 BNP-Jamaat men in Chittagong, 13 BNP-Jamaat men in Gaibandha, and 10 BNP-Jamaar activists in Sirajganj.
 
Police nabbed them in drives between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

Jessore police spokesperson assistant superintendent of police Reshma Sharmin, Satkhira district police’s information officer Sub-Inspector Kamal Hossain, Narail district superintendent of police (SP) Sardar Rakibul Islam, Gazipur district police’s Special Branch Inspector M Sirazul Islam, Chittagong district additional SP Muhammad Naimul Hossain, Gaibandha district additional superintendent of police  Mosharrof Hossain, Sirajganj police control room duty officer Delwar Hossain separately confirmed the detention to banglanews.

Police also detained nine BNP-Jamaat men in Noakhali, four people Rupganj of Narayanganj, Baliakandi upazila Jamaat unit general secretary of Rajbari, district Juba Dal unit vice president of Sirajganjm and a union level BNP leader of Gobondaganj upazila of Gaibandha.

Noakhali district SP Illias Hossain, Baliakandi Thana Officer-In-Charge Abu Shama M Iqbal Hayat, Sirajganj Sadar Thana Officer-In-Charge Habibul Islam, and Gobindaganj Thana Officer-In-Charge ABM Zahidul Islam separately confirmed the matters to banglanews.
