DHAKA: Police in separate drives detained 76 people-- 51 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and 25 activists of Bangladesh Nationalists Party (BNP) -- from several areas of the capital in last 24-hour.

Deputy police commissioner Masudur Rahman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Centre confirmed the matter to banglanews on Thursday.

He said the Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP men were detained for their alleged connection in sabotage during the blockade, coupled with frequent hartals.

The drives will be continued, he added.
