DHAKA: Police in separate drives, conducted in last 24 hours, detained 242 people including 76 from the city and other areas in country on Thursday.
In city, 76 people including 51 Jamaat-e-Islami men and 25 BNP activists were detained from several areas.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) deputy-police commissioner Masudur Rahman (Media) confirmed the matter to banglanews on Thursday.
He said the Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP men were detained in accusation of creating sabotage in the areas.
In Jessore, police detained 40 people including 13 BNP-Jamaat men from eight upazilas of the district.
ASP Reshma Sharmin confirmed the matter to banglanews.
In Noakhali, police detained 12 Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir activists from different areas of the district till 9:00am.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, Noakhali superintendent of police (SP) Ilias Sharif said they will be produced before the court soon.
In Manikganj, four Chhatra Shibir activists were held from three upazilas of the district till early morning.
District special branch of police Sub-Inspector (SI) Salam Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
In Satkhira, police detained 41 people including seven Jamaat-Shibir men from several areas of the district till 10:00am.
District Police information officer and also sub-inspector (SI) Kamal Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
In Narail, 19 people were detained in several areas of the district till 9:00am.
SP Sardar Rakibul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
In Khulna, police in a drive detained 29 people including three BNP and five Jamaat-Shibir men from eight thanas of the metropolitan area of the district.
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) ADC Maniruzzaman Mithu confirmed the matter.
In Chittagong, the law enforcers detained 24 BNP-Jamaat men from several upazilas of the district.
They were detained from Mirsharai, Sitakunda, Hathazari and Lohagara upazilas, said ASP (special branch) Muhammad Naimul Hasan.
In Chandpur, 15 BNP-Jamaat activists were detained from Chandpur sadar, Faridganj, Haimchar, Shahrasti and Matlab upazilas till 10:00am.
Chandpur SP M Amir Zafar confirmed the matter to banglanews.
In Gazipur, police detained seven people till 10:00am accusing them for creating sabotage in different areas.
Police Special Branch Inspector M Sirahul Islam confirmed the matter.
