RAJSHAHI: A leader of Rajshahi University unit Chhatra Shibir was killed in a clash with police in Shamsadpur area of the city early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Shahabuddin, information and technology affairs secretary of RU unit Shibir and student of department of Crop Science and Technology.

Motihar Thana Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Two more Shibir leaders received bullet shot and a policeman also injured during the clash held around 1:00am, the OC added.

The injured are RU Shahid Habibur Rahman Hall unit Shibir president Habibur Rahman, Sher-e-Bangla Hall unit Shibir leader Mafizul Islam and police member Mahbubur Rahman.

The OC said some Shibir cadres attacked members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) while they were patrolling in Katakhali Shamsadipur area of the upazila around 1:00am.

For self defense, police also opened fire on the Shibir cadres that left three of them injured.

The injured were rushed to the Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital where on-duty doctors declared Shahabuddin dead.

One Rafiqullah, on behalf of deceased’s family members, in a press release, claimed that police arrested the trio from Katakhali area around 8:00pm Thursday.
