SATKHIRA: Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s Kolaroa poura unit president sustained bullet injuries in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Thakurbari area of the upazila early Friday.
The injured Abdul Majid, one of the BNP-Shibir men who fled from police custody in Sharsha Upazila Thursday afternoon, was admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
He is also accused in several cases including the attack on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s motorcade.
Confirming the matter, Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamal Hossain, also information officer of Satkhira district told banglanews that acting on tip off that Majid along with his accomplices was preparing for sabotage in Thakurbari area, police conducted drive in the area around 1.30am.
At one stage, both sides traded gunshots there, leaving Majid bullet-wound.
Earlier, Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Shomen Biswas said Majid along with Shibir cadre Shahidul Islam was arrested from Kaiba-Badamtala area of Sharsha upazila on Wednesday.
Later, the arrestees fled from the police custody on Thursday afternoon while they were taken to the Jessore Court.
Following the matter, ASI Soumen, Constables Mahmudur Rahman and Rabindranath have been closed and posted at the police line.
