GAZIPUR: Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), called a 48-hour hartal in the district from Saturday protesting the arrest of Gazipur City Corporation mayor MA Mannan.

Gazipur city JCD unit member secretary Jahangir Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

A team Detective Branch (DB) of police picked up Mannan, also an adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, from his DOHS residence at Baridhara of the capital around 6:00pm Wednesday.

After detention, he was taken to Gazipur DB headquarters. Police kept him there since then.
