DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday approved the proposals for holding the polls of two city corporations of Dhaka.

Sheikh Hasina made the approval when Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Syed Ashraful Islam placed the proposals before premier at the regular cabinet meeting.

Wishing anonymity, a minister who was present in the meeting, confirmed the matter to banglanews.

As per rules, election commission (EC) will announce the schedule after the request of LGRD ministry in this regard, he added.

He further said they would announce the name of candidate in time after it is confirmed by the party.

They also talked about holding the election of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC).

On February 16, Prime Minister enjoined the LGRD ministry about holding the polls of two city corporations of Dhaka in a shortest possible time.

The premier also talked about selecting former FBCCI president Anisul Huq as a candidate from Dhaka North City Corporation.
