20-party 72-hr hartal enters 3rd day

DHAKA: The fresh 72-hour hartal, sponsored by Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led (BNP) 20-party alliance, has entered the third day across the country on Tuesday.

Began at 6:00am on Sunday, the shutdown will continue till 6:00am on Wednesday, coupled with a nationwide road-rail-waterway blockade for indefinite period.

Sabotages, explosions were reported at different places the country on Monday night.

Two people sustained injuries in a cocktail blast in Borga. Miscreants also set fire to a truck by hurling petrol bombs there.  

Two others were also injured when miscreants hurled petrol bomb at a drugs-loaded pick-up van of pharmaceutical company Renata Limited in Haimchar of Chandpur on Monday night.

Earlier, BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed, on behalf of his party chairperson Khaleda Zia and the alliance, announced the fifth spell of shutdown through issuing statement on Friday afternoon.
