DHAKA: BNP asked the government to send Nagarik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna back to his family.
BNP joint-secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed came up with the demand in a statement sent to the media on Tuesday.
The BNP leader along with Manna’s wife Meher Nigar claimed that a plainclothes team of DB police picked up him from his niece’s house on Road No. 17-A of Block E in Bannai around 3:30am on Tuesday.
Later, at a press briefing, Detective Branch (BD) of Police denied the arrest of Manna.
Salahuddin further said that they have become astonished and shocked at DB’s denial of Manna’s arrest.
He claimed that the citizens hardly have any human rights.
According to him, there is no more guarantee of safe living left in the country.
Salahuddin blamed the law enforcers for Manna’s missing. He also demanded the government to return Manna to his family immediately.
However, audio clips of a long telephone conversation between Manna and a BNP leader was leaked on Sunday.
During the conversation, Manna allegedly hinted for military intervention in Bangladesh and asked for ‘a few deaths’ on Dhaka University campus to shake the government.
