A leader of Parbatya Chattagram Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP), a student front of Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS), was killed in a reported gunfight between two rival groups of the political party in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati.

The gunfight took place between MN Larma (Reformists) and Santu Larma factions of PCJSS in Babupara area of the upazila around 1:45 pm on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Ratan Chakma Ratno, 22, son of Ondho Lal Chakma. 

He was the organizing secretary of Kachalong Govt College unit Parbatya Chattagram Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP, MN Larma).

Confirming the matter, Baghaichhari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashraf Uddin said a police team is on its way to recover the body. Details about the incident will be disclosed later. 

According local sources, armed cadres of both groups engaged in a gunfight around noon over establishing supremacy in the area. Ratan was shot by rivals and died on the spot.

The shootout incident caused panic in the locality. Members of law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area following the incident.
