Shawkat Ali, former deputy speaker of the National Parliament, passed away on Monday at the age of 84.

He breathed his last this morning while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka this morning.

His son Khaled Shawkat Ali confirmed the matter.

The former deputy speaker had been on life support from November 5.

He had been suffering from kidney, diabetics, pneumonia and high blood pressure for a long time.
