An activist from MN Larma group of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) was shot to death by rivals at Pakuijjachhari in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Ratan Priyo alias Dhiman Chakma, 35, son of Boddha Mangal Chakma of the area.

Dhiman was also the bodyguard of Naniarchar Upazila Chairman Progoti Chakma.

According to locals, Dhiman was sleeping at a shop near his house on Saturday night when armed men wake him up. They took him to a nearby place and shot him dead on the spot.

BGB and Police personnel recovered the body in the morning and sent it to a hospital in Khagrachari.

JSS MN-Larma group's Secretary General Jossy Chakma claimed members of rival Santu Larma faction of JSS committed the murder. He also demanded exemplary punishment of the assailants.

JSS Santu Larma group's Secretary General Tridip Chakma alias Dip Babu refuted the allegation saying: "There are no terrorist activities in our group. The incident might have occurred due to their (MN-Larma) internal clash."
