A tribunal in Dhaka on Thursday refused to accept a plea for lodging a case against Hefazat-e-Islam Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
While refusing the application, Judge Ash Shams Joglul Hossain of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal told the applicant, Bangabandhu Foundation founder Abdul Malek, to lodge the case with the police station concerned.
In the case, the plaintiff alleged that Mamunul made provocative and derogatory remarks against the sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at a program arranged by Bangladesh Khilafat Jubo Majlis at the BMA Auditorium in Dhaka on November 13.
A video of Mominul's 'anti-state' remarks later went viral on social media. Following his speech, several Islamist leaders made similar comments against Bangabandhu's sculpture in a bid to create unrest in the country.
During a live programme on his verified Facebook page, Mamunul on December 7 night termed Muktijuddho Moncho an "extremist organization" and said he never made a disrespectful comment against Bangabandhu.
