A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered to freeze 617 bank accounts of Laxmipur-2 lawmaker Kazi Shahid Islam Papul and three other members of his family in a graft case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Moreover, the court also ordered to crock 92 deeds of immovable properties of the four accused. 

The other accused are: Papul's wife Selina Islam MP, their daughter Wafa Islam, and Papul's sister-in-law Jesmin Prodhan.

Earlier December 10, the High Court asked MP Shahid Islam Papul’s wife Selina Islam and their daughter Wafa Islam to surrender before a court within 10 days rejecting a bail petition filed by the accused in the case.  

On November 11, ACC Deputy Director Salahuddin Ahmed filed the case against Papul and three of his family members on charge of amassing Tk 2.31 crore illegal wealth and laundering Tk 148 crore.

On June 6, Kuwait’s Criminal Investigation Department arrested Shahid on charges of human trafficking, visa trading, and money laundering. He is currently in Kuwait jail.
