The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday granted ad-interim bail to BNP vice-chairman Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, who was jailed for 13 years in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). 

A virtual appeal bench, chaired by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed the order after hearing a bail petition.

On November 8, Mir Nasir was sent to jail after he had surrendered before a lower court as per the High Court order.

Upon surrender, Mir Nasir also filed for leave to appeal with the Supreme Court and sought bail in the case.    

The Dhaka Special Judge Court-2 on November 8 sent Nasir, also former state minister for civil aviation, to jail after rejecting his bail prayer.

On March 6, 2007, the ACC filed the case against Mir Nasir and his son Mir Helal amassing wealth beyond known source of income and concealing wealth information to in statements submitted to the Commission.

On July 4, Dhaka Special Judge Court-2 sentenced Nasir to 13 years of imprisonment and his son Mir Helal to three years of imprisonment in the case. Later they filed separate appeals against that verdict with the High Court.
