An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) succumbed to injuries after being stabbed by rivals in Chattogram's Bakalia area on Friday morning.
Ashikur Rahman Rohit, first-year student of MES College and a resident of DC Road under Bakalia police station of the port city, died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital around 5:00am today.
He was critically injured in a knife attack during an election campaign of Awami League mayoral candidate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury on January 8, according police sources.
On January 9, victim's brother Zahidur Rahman filed a case with Bakalia police station against three people- Mohiuddin, Babu and Sabu.
Md Yasir Arafat, sub-inspector of Bakalia police station and investigation officer of the case, said all the three accused have been absconding following the attack. However, drives are underway to arrest them.
Meanwhile, local BCL leaders and activists staged demonstration and blocked Chawkbazar Guljar intersection after death news of Rohit spread in the morning. They demanded quick arrest of the perpetrators.
One of the demonstrators and a Jubo League leader Sakibur Rahman told Banglanews: "Rohit was killed in a planned manner but his killers are still at large. We demand immediate arrest of the assailants."
